myriad of different backgrounds. Innocent maidens from the backwoods,
streetwise teenage girls from the cities, tough barbarian wenches from the
northern hills, all find themselves on the frontline of war and sexual
intrigue. To whom will they turn for love and friendship? The old leering
sergeant at the training camp, perhaps? Or maybe the handsome swordsman with
the twinkling eyes? Or, if male companionship is not what they seek, they could
snuggle up with their female comrades and explore each other's breathless
curiosity.
The savagery of battle is not the only peril facing these
women, for they must also avoid capture by the enemy, who might treat them with
considerable cruelty. Captured female bandits and defeated rebels no doubt
expect such indignities but, in the Heartland, even prisoners-of-war expect no
mercy, and some of these tales describe what happens to the unfortunate
victims. Some captives are forced to surrender their bodies for sex, others
receive humiliation or punishment in village squares or dank dungeons. Escape,
if it can be contrived, offers their only respite from slavery, imprisonment or
the galleys.
Amidst the dark deeds and endless conflict, however, there
are countless moments of true light. The main theme of the Warrior Women
stories (apart from sex!) is the comradeship that develops between characters,
especially between those who appear regularly. Through their conversations,
often interlaced with sarcasm and dark humour, we see how their relationships
progress quickly from friendship to foreplay, and from foreplay to fucking. We
see their their shifting moods, their brooding anger, their merry laughter in a
tavern, their fear on the eve of battle, their grief for a slain comrade. Away
from the battlefields they immerse themselves in a fast-paced whirl of hot,
sweaty, alcohol-fuelled sex. So, even though life in the Heartland is often
short and filled with danger, the Warrior Women certainly know how to enjoy it!
